I just posted some info about Australian gun control that was sent to me via email and I left the "s" of of news. How can I fix that without deleting the whole thread and starting over again?

I can't help you, Bill. My ignorance about computers and software is vast. So much so that I'll now ask a really, really basic question: after I send this message, is there a way I can avoid logging out of the HI Forum and Bladeforums altogether and then having to log back in? That's what I do now, and my phone line is s-l-o-w. Seems like I ought to be able to send the message, then get back to the HI home page.

MM if you go into your user cp or whatever it is you can set your cookies to where you don't have to log in or out.
Even my webtv cookie that BF sets remembers where it's at when I'm on bladeforums and it's good for a
year."D

I don't think it can be done. I think the post must be deleted and done over and that's a lot of work -- for me.

Uncle Bill, Cougar Allen (as another moderator) might very well be able to help on this one. E-mail him. You moderators have been granted special powers on the forums above and beyond those of us mere mortals :D

I can hear the kettle drums beating as the "Thus Spake Zarathustra" bit opens the movie version of 2001, with the monkeys gathering around the obelisk not knowing they are soon to be enlightened.

I'm not sure about this...but seems like I was able to edit a "post subject" and that controlled the "thread title" until somebody replied to the post, then the capability was locked out. I guess I can understand that logic. Otherwise, you can imagine the mischief that could ensue.

With the old UBB software it couldn't be done, but with the new vBulletin it can -- I did it myself recently. I think the problem is because Spark temporarily set the software to disallow editing posts more than two days old to stop people avoiding paying for the privilege of posting ads in the exchange forums by editing their old ads to insert new ones. Did you wait more than two days before attempting to edit it? What happens when you click on the "edit" button -- do you get to the edit screen? If not, are you logged in?

Anyway, there's a workaround:

Click on "quote" at the bottom of the message.

Then highlight the whole message (except the "{QUOTE}{i}Originally posted by Bill Martino {/i}{B}" at the beginning and the "{/B}{/QUOTE}" at the end).

Rightclick on the highlighted text and choose "copy."

Start a new thread and type in the title you want. Rightclick in the message text box and choose "paste."

The original message will be pasted in.

This is real basic computer stuff that everybody needs to know -- you never have to retype anything, just type it once and paste it anywhere else you want it. :)

Thanks for usual good help, Cougar. But, I still can't edit the thread titile. Doesn't really make any difference. I can delete the thread and start over again.

Ya gotta learn how to communicate with geeks! After all those questions the only answer I get is "I still can't edit the thread title"??? This is worse than telling your mechanic just "the car needs fixing" because the mechanic might be able to figure out what you should have told him by experimentation -- he could try to start it and if it doesn't start he'll know that's what you didn't tell him, or if it starts but it stalls when he tries to put it in gear he'll know that's what you didn't tell him, or if it runs fine but the windshield wipers don't work.... I can't even do that; it worked fine for me.

Don't go over to the Support forum and refuse to tell Spark any more than "I can't edit the thread title" ... he might get so frustrated he might just decide to end it all, and he lives near a nuclear weapons facility....

Of course I can't just forget about it ... it's driving me nuts not knowing what the problem is (a short drive, some would say).... I guess I'll try it again a few more times and see if the windshield wipers fall off or the engine catches on fire or the radio explodes....
