If I literally have no use for the secondary blade? I was looking at Charlie's SFO and love the look of the ebony and the shield on handle. The Un-x-ld just gets me lol. Even the harness stamp looks cool. So pretty much, should I buy it? I can't think of anything I would use the secondary blade. I never punch holes in anything haha.

You will be completely surprised at the uses you will find for the punch, don't rule it out.

I think you should go for it. If you don't like it, you'll be able to flog it on the exchange here easily enough. :)

Sometimes we don't know we need something till we have it. I use an awl all the time to indent a shallow hole in wood to help with hand starting screws. That would be handy to have on an EDC, which now makes me think I might need one of them blood red harness jacks. Departing to the knife store.:D

You said.....

That's enough for me......you should buy it.

Sometimes, you don't need a knife to cut something. Sometimes, you just need a slim piece of metal to poke or scrape something. Save your edge and use the awl! Give one a try!

you can spear sausages, scrape stuff, use it on a firesteel, and many other unmentionable things that go against knife etiquette (like prying)

Haha thanks guys! I guess I could use to clean my fingernails (I'm a mechanic so they're always dirty). Is it strong enough to use as an actual punch for stuck screws or bolts? For instance, using a mallet on the end of the handle or would this be abuse? Or prying? :p

Also, is the awl sharp?

Never even thought this thing had so many uses. Thanks again guys. Ordering very soon :)

I just entered the Harness Jack fold with this past SFO, and I am really amazed at the uses for the punch. It cleans my nails, opens boxes (it is sharp enough for this, bit not enough to cut paper), pokes stuff, works as a fine-tipped pointer, and does anything I don't want to do with the blade. I wouldn't use it as a metal punch (not that kind of punch), but have already used it to start screws in wood and drywall. In truth, I think the punch has been getting more use than the spear.

Just ordered mine :) I'm excited. I was originally looking into the Radio Jack SFO but couldn't find one available. This will do.

adoboyo, I've carried the HJ in the past and as of late the HJ6 of Charlies on the #66 frame has really captured my attention. It was a few weeks ago that I posted using it to ream/scrape some battery terminals in my shop getting equipment ready for my work season.

As Brett mentioned "Save your edge and use the awl"

I have the recent #15 HJ but the HJ6 with the Tomato acrylic covers owns the pocket time as of late:thumbup:

Although the awl's are of a different shape they both possess a nice edge for scraping.

Not that a picture is needed of the recent HJ here's one regardless:D

Yeah, I didn't know why I didn't think of the uses for it. I kind of think of it as a scribe now. Something that would help take gaskets off at work or something. Or scrape and even pry if I have to. Or to take off really tight zip ties where the spear point can't get under.

"Save the edge, use the awl" sounds like, cut with the spear and abuse with the awl :p

Congrats on finding a Radio you like! Now I can't resist suggesting that NO PRYING is the best advice (it will loosen up the joint and you'll have wobbly blades). Punch, poke, light scraping? YES!
In leather, wood and cardboard (or punching holes in gaskets if you're making one!?) it's got endless uses.

Sir
The Harness Jack is a awesome knife.
Like others have said the Awl comes in handy big time- soon you will be just looking for some to dig that Awl into!

Paul's example is just awesome - the 66 HJ is one of my favourites ( I have hundreds of favourites lol ) - but as pointed out the new #15 looks to be yet another favourite coming up for me as I have a few on order.

Try the knife- I sincerely doubt you will want to sell it after carrying it for a few weeks. I use the Awl as a Scriber when working with wood.

Awls on knives are also great for getting that last nickle's worth of stogie without burning your fingers.

I use my Pioneer/Farmer but if I had a HJ, it would be doing the same thing (just classier :D)!

 Hey, maybe there will be a "Cigar Jack" in the future!!!! (I can dream, can't I) :)

I find awls super useful. I love the look of that 15.

My goodness. I received my Ebony Harness Jack today and I am in awe. This is a beautiful piece. I admit, I recently got into traditionals. I had a SAK as a kid or remember playing with one. This thing is beautiful. Beautiful wood and the F&F is absolutely top-notch. I'm afraid to use it! Even though, I know this was made to be used and I most definitely will. I am willing to throw anything and everything at this. This will definitely be my EDC. Overall, I am very, very happy with my purchase. I'll probably order another one (or even two :P) for backup just in case something happens to this one.

I have a question regarding the Ebony...When and how can I condition it? Also, I'm curious...how do you guys normally sharpen yours? I have some Shapton Glass Stones that I'll probably sharpen it with tomorrow and a Sharpmaker. And finally, is the awl supposed to be sharp?

Btw, very fast shipping from NWKC! I ordered on Tuesday and got it today (Friday) and I'm in Hawaii!

Oh my, I totally missed this knife's debut. Adoboyo, I'm glad you posted up the question. I use my pen blade on my TC Barlow for everything the guys have said they use an awl for. It's why I'll never be able to cut myself back (get it? cut myself back) to a single blade. I use a scraper/reamer/pick/scribe/poker/spear-er, etc quite a bit. Now that they have a dedicated knife in the 15 frame......well dang. Lol. I am skittish about buying a new knife after the pony jack fiasco. For the new guys, it wasn't the knife's fault, I just couldn't give up my TCB. But.....I might try again for this little beauty.....hmm.
