Hi folks,

Can any of you knowledgeable people explain to me the difference between the Spyderco Native 5 lock and the Triad Lock? The Native 5's updated lock as a stop pin like the Triad Lock does. I have not yet held the Native 5 but I have a Triad Lock and the geometry of the lock bar and tang are deeper and more angled and normal for a lock back. What about the Native 5?

Thanks

i believe spyderco stop pins on (some of) their spine locks are attached to the blade tang. on opening, the pin rotates with the blade, running along a circular groove cut into the liner. they "stop" where the groove terminates. so it's not anything like the triad lock.

stop pin on the chaparral (i think):

The Native V has a stepped pivot, like the ParaMilitary 2 and some other Spyderco models, but its lock appears to be a normal Spyderco midlock, although one with very tight tolerances. It does not have a stop pin.

Ahhh, many thanks. I had been misinformed my reading some posts that the Native 5 had a stop pin. Thanks for posting the photos. One can clearly see there is a difference. I am being tempted by the Native 5 Light Weight and wondered about the lock. I also wonder if it will fit my thick hands. The Delica does fit okay, for example, but a Mini-Grip is a bit small.

I would guess that the Native 5 may also be a bit small for you unless you're using the choil.
