Hello,

I am looking for a multi-tool with the following implements which I will list in order of importance. The most important thing is both a locking plain knife and locking serrated knife...

Locking normal knife blade
Locking serrated knife blade
Scissors
Can Opener
Wood Saw
Regular screwdriver
Philips screwdriver
Pliers
Tweezers
Awl
Metal Saw
Nail File / Nail Cleaner
Bottle Opener

Anything more would not necessarily be a bonus as I am trying to keep the size and weight down...

Thanks for your help,

Scott

The Leatherman Wave is one of the better compromises between number of tools and size. It's missing the Tweezers, Awl, Metal Saw, and Nail File, but the other tools can be used to sort of substitute for the awl and nail file. And I suppose the needle-nose on the pliers could make a sort of tweezers :)

As for metal saws, the only design I'm aware of that incorporates those are the Gerber designs which allow the replacement of jigsaw type blades. You can customize for what you want to cut, then replace easily when it gets dull. With their design though (tools are all stored internally), finding two separate blades, a saw, and a nail file is probably difficult, especially in a compact package.

I'm curious as to the need for a plain blade, serrated blade, and saws. Elminating any one of those opens up more options.

1. Leatherman Wave (or new crunch) has the locking blades and a wood saw, but no metal saw and no tweezers or awl (you could sharpen the small flat screwdriver on the wave to make an awl :-)

2. Some SAKs have a metal saw/file and a wood saw, but only one locking blade (either serrated or plain)

3. Some gerbers have saw options...

4. I've given up on this quest and carry a SAK _and_ a leatherman...

Small correction to klattman's post: the Leatherman Wave has a metal saw as part of the file blade (locking).

Yep, I forgot about that, having not used my wave in a while...

First, thanks for all of the responses. This is a huge help! I guess you guys understand where I'm coming from...

I thought about the Wave, although it is missing the tweezers and the awl... But I was hoping to get something a bit smaller than 4".

What does everyone think about the Juice XE6 (NOT IN PURPLE!!! :barf: ). Storm is cool...

Does it have locking blades? How are the can openers on them... The one on my Wenger is amazing... And does the nail file have the metal saw on the edge? So I'd just be missing the metal saw (maybe) and tweezers...

I better go to my nearest knife store... My wife is out of town so she'll never know, LOL! ;)

Oh, yeah, I do need both knives and saws... When camping I use the serrated knife on meat prep and the like, the straight knife on woodworking, the wood saw on, you guessed it, wood, and the metal saw on...

"How about the Juice XE6?"

Nothing is locking on the XE6, and blades don't open one handed.

bye

Juice is a slip-joint, no locks. The can opener is not as good as a SAK, but it works well. The diamond file does have "SAW" teeth on the edge, but I've never actually tried to saw metal with it.

Apparently there was a "juice XE6 PRO" sold at COSTCO with a tweezers built in.. built special for costco...
