Custom (custom content of thread! And I will be looking to buy a custom knife there as well...) knife show in November? Where, exactly when and any advice about good places for a welshman to stay that is cheap, with good access to the show and more importantly safe or at least reasonably safe? Cheers people!

General, welcome to NYC! You'll find the Midtown area of Manhattan to be quite safe. Crime in New York is WAY down, in fact at forty year lows. The flip side of that is that you will have to limit your carry knife to under 4" and no auto's allowed. Don't even think about carrying a hand gun or a straight blade in a sheath!
There are hundreds of hotels in the area of the Custom show, but none might reasonably be called "cheap". Housing is always an issue in NYC, even for visitors. I would get on the net and check around. The good news is that transportation is convenient in Midtown, and everything is within walking distance! New Yorkers walk more than anyone you've ever met and most of us are not nearly as obnoxious as you've heard!
Anyway, have fun in the Apple, and I hope to see you at the show!
John.

The Glen Point Marriott in Teaneck, NJ may be a good idea. It's very cheap compared to NYC and there's an hourly (or better) quick bus ride to the NY Port Authority for about $2.

You won't find any reasonably priced hotel rooms in midtown. There are some right across the river in Secausus,NJ, or the aforementioned Teaneck. The hotel the show is in is really nice and convenient if you can afford it. You'll be safe in the city unless you do something silly like let $50 bills hang out of your pockets, or scream racial ephithets on the street. The show is November 2,3,4.Oh, and those items John said you can't carry, the problem really isn't in carrying them, it's in getting caught with them.

Gee thanks Dave, and General as much as I'd like to have you stay at my place for the NYC Show I'll have to tell you the same thing I told Para when he asked. Unfortunately I'll be out of town for the show, our family Ski Trip is on that weekend and I'll be in ....ahhhhh....New Orleans.....yeah that's it....I'll be sking in Louisiana. Of course I'd let you use my apartment while we're gone, but once again unfortunately the whole place is going to be fumigated that weekend from the last time Lifter came to visit. :D

Yep, water skiing is real popular in La. Just don't fall or a gator might get you. lol

Nov 2, 3 and 4. At the Sheraton New York, 51st and 7th Ave. I'll post more details as I get more info.

It's one of the real "biggies". Many major makers will be in attendance.

Its a great show, run around like a kid in a candy store (although this candy is real pricey).....is there a website for this years event? Just curious.

General, if you make it, you'll love this show. Lot of great makers and lots of BF forumites.
