Can anyone give some info on this machete

I was cleaning out some stuff the previous owner left in my basement and found this. It looks like an ordinary machete but it's fairly heavy at about 25 oz for a 20" length. It has a wood handle and full tang. I'm not interested in selling it, just curious as it looks old and it's been in my basement for 20+ years.

Sorry, I can't seem to get the photos to embed. Thanks for any assistance.

Thanks to both of you. A little looking on the google told me that this was common to many French colonies, including Viet Nam so I'm guessing it may have come back with a GI. Thank you for your help. It would have taken a long time to search for its origins.
