Can anyone help me make a leather or kydex sheath?

I was wondering if anyone could make a really nice, and light, sheath (pants) for my Yuvraj Western Style Knife. It's a scant 10.5 inches OAL, and 6.6oz. I love this little guy to death, and would like to carry him on occasion, when I think I would like his reassuring companionship. I basically EDC my IBBB usually, along with my folder, but sometimes, I need something with a little more sticking profile.

The sheath could be leather, or kydex, I would like to be able to quick draw either from the belt, near the small of the back, in a horizontal sheath; or in the pants vertically, in the small of the back.

We can work out a payment/trade of some sort, whatever works.

I know we need to ship it to make sure the sheath can be fitted, just remember to take care of my baby...:p I know that goes without saying :)

Here is a pic of the little guy. Yes Bawanna, it's antler handled...

I would also like a sheath for the IBBB as well. It is the one on the bottom of this photo. Of course the checkering job was done by our resident pro, Bawanna!

Thanks...

I don't remember seeing that one! Don't, I repeat don't send it to me or you'll never see it again.

Are you really allowed to have stuff like that in California? Hmmmm?

That's a lot of knife to inside the belt carry in the small of the back, I like the horizontal idea and have thought about that for mine.

Horizontally in the small of the back might distribute the surface area if you happen to fall wrong or get hit or whatever and it's generally an overall flatter surface area of the body as opposed to round, at least in my case.
You can really hurt your self and wreck your back with stuff like center of the back holsters for guns etc.

Also have to consider a good means of resheathing that beauty without stabbing yourself etc.

Darn that's a beautiful knife....................

Actually in hindsight I think I do remember that one. I cried for days. That's super nice.

Oh forgot, hit Pugs or Wildman up if your leaning towards leather which is the way I would lean, although for that horizontal carry idea kydex might have a little better and easier to achieve retention without straps and such.

I'd send it to you, to get it back, I may need to go up to see ya though...lol

Allowed? Not really. Like I said, I'm not overly fond of all these dumbass rules in CA, but, I love CA too much to leave. I think more than half of my "personal" stuff isn't allowed...lol

I really like the horizontal idea, that was my first thinking too. I just stuck it vertically, and um....that wouldn't be such a good idea, it would seem.

I am looking at leather, it's softer, and it looks like it doesn't need to be made as wide.

I'll PM Pugs or Wildman.

Check out the last couple of posts in the nearby "get what showed up today thread" as for sheathing.....i can carry 6"-7" blades this way but that is pushing it....much depends on body, and having any hollow to side between hip and chest wall....but i carry them IWB under tucked or untucked shirt.....tucked shirt means ripped buttons in an emergency and very slow unbuttoning/drawing and resheathing otherwise...but at least it is there....IWB on left side as i am a righty......allergic to small of back as a fall on what is there can cripple you for life...and any fight where you must draw that knife or gun might have you going down prior to getting to it...and impossible to get to it if on back and easy for assailant to get to if he has you down on your belly....
.

The tab simply keeps the sheath from falling off blade and down pants leg....body pressure against inside keeps tab engaged.......thicker guards will hook on waistline and prevent entire package from slipping down leg.....if not enough guard on knife for that, and extra thickness strip sewn across sheath mouth would accomplish same but needs be narrow to prevent riding too high and handle sticking out even worse under concealing shirt.....stack up of leather on guard side quickly
moulds to body as does sheath what with all the heat, pressure and sweat......cut away view shows the skivved in interior for guard/handle clearance and tab relations......

But i will add am facing a similar dilemma on the recent BCAK and think i will simply remove frog and chape from sheath and use IWB as sheath has the little rectangle of wood near top of sheath mouth sewn in under leather which prevents frog from slipping up higher and which would also prevent sheath IWB from slipping lower.....will go this route IF i can remove frog and chape without destroying sheath....heat for chape and maybe wet/stretch frog as on their tight enough eyelets already scarred sheath on install.....and only as an experiment as a flat sheath moulds to body and wood line sheath will not, so....will not know unless i know.....

The frogs generally will slip right off, not a problem at all.

The chape just has a couple of divit's punched into it to hold onto the sheath, no clue or laha or anything that I've ever seen. I've not removed one, dulled the tip on a bunch but I don't think they come off very hard either.

The very thin frog on this one is on TIGHT and as mentioned above, tight enough frog eyelets scarred sheath for several inches....chape is glued but rocks, and may be able to simply pull off....am afraid of tearing frog where it wraps around sheath as no especial way to even get the thinnest thing slid underneath to break traction and would hate to tear the edge....

Personally think the hard sheath will end up objectionable, at least over a flat mouldable sheath......but on other hand, and in all truth on such a relatively small 6" blade knife, and thin buffalo hide frog, it actually works fine in a pinch with entire rig as it sits simply shoved in waistband.....extra stuff hanging off just offends my sensibilities and i know chape would chafe clothing eventually...even if actually not especially noticeable when carried mex....

The ones i removed are hot glued. You can heat them up a bit with a heat gun and they come right off. If you want to put them back on heat em up and stick em back on. Easy money!

Yep.....the frog was the tough part, thin and TIGHT but used the BCAK to shave the end of a round end popsicle stick to a round scraper ramp (pretty versatile, that 1/4" thick blade) and worked the frog off after 20 mins....then just wiggled the chape off...carries fine IWB and wore to Mass under shirt....but a flatter sheath would be better and hate idea of this one getting sweat soaked day in and out and frankly kinda ugly tipping of leather and bare wood at very tip, so all will be going back together...

That's a sweet knife! I've done some Horizontal Sheaths recently. . . Email me for pictures. Unless it's okay to share some here?

I've been into kydex forming for a little bit now. I'm no pro, but I would be happy to try my hand at a sheath for your knife. I've done a few for myself and some friends, khukuris too, and this one looks like it would be easy to do. I usually make a separate clip plate with a metal clip that attaches to the back, and I can make that reversible, possibly even multi-direction if I plan it out right. I'll try to remember to take some pics of my other ones later. Feel free to shoot me a message.
