I'm trying to decide on a new knife to replace my faithful camillus heat.

I'm not sure what I like better.......the wave feature, or assisted open. I'd like to be able to open it smoothly with one hand. I'll be using it every day, so it needs to have nice steel and take a beating. Also, it should be fun to play with, with a flipper on the side for good 1h deployment.

So far I like the Cold Steel Ti lite 4 inch model, as it has a wave feature and looks like it can be opened nicely with one hand. The spyderco endura waved looks nice too, but im not sure if I want something without assisted open. The twitch XL also looks nice, as does the SOG vulcan.

Course, i'd love to get my hands on a camillus aftermath or cuda maxx, i'd but another heat but I dont like the zytel handle. If only the heat came with a metal handle....

Can anyone else suggest anything else? Thanks :)

Look at the kershaw lineup as there are several low priced assisted opening knives available. There are also some non-assisted flippers that are VERY fun to play with and also a solid using knife, i.e. Junkyard Dog II has an excellent flipper that you would swear is assisted but it is not. Check out the Kershaw forum over in the Manufactures forums.:thumbup::thumbup:

Btw, if you want a heavy duty folder look no further than the Kershaw ZT0200. This is a whole lot of knife for an unbelievable price.

The Ti-Lite has a zytel handle and it is hard to use the thumb studs, the blade sits very low in the handle, so it isn't that easy to open. I had one and gave it away, the blade design just wasn't that useful for edc IMO. Look at some of the new Kershaw offerings, they are usually less expensive than some of the others you listed and better quality to boot. Plus they either have assisted opening or a special flipper.

You beat me to it while I was writing it.:grumpy:

You do realize that you need neither wave nor assisted open to open one-handed? That would expand your choices immensely.

But if you do want assisted open, Kershaw has a lot of good ones.

I'd go with Kershaw also. The Junkyard Dog 2 is a good choice, as is a Leek. I still play with my Leek after having it for a few years.

Wow, thanks for the suggestions guys......I really like the look of the Kershaw Spec Bump with the Sandvik steel blade, what do you guys think about that knife?

depends on how sheeple friendly you want your edc to be. if you don't really care, then i would definitely go with the spec bump.

Spyderco builds high quality knives. Look through their 2008 cat., I'm sure that you will find the perfect EDC.
