Can anyone help me with info about this knife?

I came into a curved hunting knife with a stag handle. It has finger grooves and a brass guard and buttcap. The blade reads J.L. Barbee Ft. Stockton Tx.
I have tryed to find this maker to no avail. Sorry about the quality of the pic. ( or lack there of ). Thanks

I don't believe he is still alive. In the middle 80's he was a guide and knifemaker in the Bigbend area of Texas. He heat treated the first knives I made for several years. His wife made his sheaths and also made flyrods. He beieved in fairly simple knives but would cut with the best. His heattreat oven was made by some of the scientists from Houston that worked for NASA. I did not find out until years later that he was cryoing all the 440C blades we made but as I said theysure cut. Mike
