Works ok in clear water. Not meant to be a primary filter tool.

Have a backup as it clogs in dirt water quickly.

Skam

thanks, I was thinking since knowone responded that this was a lost cause or that the straw was a skam.....

I have used them for decades (there's several in my bags at this time).

They are an excellent product IMO used properly - I mostly use them when day hiking from base camp when I'm not carrying my primary water filtration system. I have a canteen which the straw fits nicely in and simply fill the canteen from a stream or brook and then insert the staw filter when I need to drink.

It ain't no scam, it works.

Dang you would ask something like that, I bought it decades ago at sporting goods store in Santa Fe and I'm sorry I do not recall the brand name, but one of the reasons for the purchase was the wide mouth opening and larger than normal canteen capacity. It's a green polymer type w/ a white plastic lid (have 2 and they are both store w/ my camping gear at the farm - I'll try to remember to look next time I'm up there)

Seems I saw something similar to them the last time I was at REI, if you have one near you (be sure and take the straw along to try for fitting).

Wish I could be more help,
