I just got into chopping and splitting wood and i love it. I have been using the ax that has been in my house for years but never really ever used it before. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what would be the best possible ax to buy to get some cutting done. I do have one of those thick splitting axes as well. But what i am looking for is a really sharp strong chopping ax to make the spliting process go by quick. any brands or types will be much appreciated!!!!!

This being practical tactical id imagine you want an axe to chop up people, right ?:grumpy:
 
If you need to split wood, you should stick to a splitting maul (one of the thick axes). A sharp chopping axe with a thin grind will get stuck in the wood way too much and make your life harder. If you need an axe to chop wood, then that's a different story. What size axe are you looking for? Do you want a full size felling axe? If so, I would go with a Council Tool Dayton or Jersey pattern axe. They give you a lot for the money. If you have the money you may also consider a Gransfors Bruks American Felling Axe, but since you are just starting out, I think a lower cost one might be a better way to go.
