I picked up a bayonet that supposedly came from Iraq and there is some arabic writing on the sheath. If you can translate, please post here and I will email you a clear pic.

Thanks!

I can't translate Arabic but I bet I can translate what that nice lady is saying. Send HER to me.

Does it say: اللغة العربية الفصحى at one end?

In that case it means "Insert this end into the infidel sons-of-pigs."
Now as for the sheath you've been holding in your hands, it's made from camel scrotum. :D

You might post this info on a military collectors site, or get in touch with Not2Sharp a member here(he's a knowledgeable collector).

It's probably a German made bayonet for a middle eastern contract for 98 Mausers etc. They marked them in the users language.
A couple of those countries bought a lot of Mauser rifles and bayonets.

My brother-in-law speaks arabic and i'm going to see him tomorrow. If you can email me a picture with the writing on it i'll try and ask him.

I know a crapload of persians, but I probably wouldn't be able help you before Point44. I won't be seeing any of them for a week.

GOT IT. Just asked my bro-in-law about it.

Although he says the last part is a bit unclear and he cannot make out anything out of it.

THe part on the top right is 'ISIM'

THe lower part is 'Faisal Abdur....(can't make it out)'

Basically....Isim Faisal Abdur....

WHICH MEANS....

Name: Faisal Abdur-(something)

He asked me to look up what it means if you want to know....but basically almost all muslim names have meanings. So...

Faisal=strong/handsome
Abdur=servant

So i'm guessing the unclear part is something else e.g. Abdur-Rahman, Abdur-Razaq or stuff like that which would make his name 'servant of (something)'

Hope MY post isn't unclear. I don't know how else to explain it.:D

I really appreciate the info and your time. Please thank your brother in law for me as well.:thumbup:
