Can anyone ID my "loupe"?

Man I love this thing. I grabbed it from the swap meet for around a buck. Works fantastically as a loupe, but I'm not sure it's original job.

Any ideas?

I have several loupes made in Japan for SPI. They are fantastic and I use them a lot. If it was German or Japanese made, it would be marked.

It's for viewing stamps or other printed matter. The clear part allows light in and keeps the lens the proper distance for focus.

Definitely a graphic arts loupe. Tend to run between 8 and 10x (roughly). Quality can be all over the map, so if its whipping up bright clear images, that's good enough. I have an 8x one that's very similar - not the strongest, but lets in a lot of light and makes a crisp image. I actually cut the base off of mine and hold it "freehand", allows me to inspect a bit easier at different angles and lets in even more light.

Yeah, I've compared it to my others, it's around 10x if I remember correctly. Good call. The clear part unscrews from the lens, but I find the distance to be about ideal.

Thanks guys! I had zero idea if it was a stand alone item, or if it was supposed to be a part of something else.
