I have this older Schrade folder I want to put up for sale but I am trying to find out the model and age so I can figure out how much to put it for.

The blades have patina and scratches. The Handles appear to be bone.

On the blade it reads

SCHRADE WALDEN

NY. USA

I think it is a model 861, about a 4" stockman. It is the father to my 61OT a great knife. I've seen one listed for $30 in good to very good condition. Yours is not in as good a condition. 1946 - early 70s.

I am curious, does that knife have 861 stamped on the back of the master blade. Usually the pattern number is stamped on a SCHRADE WALDEN NY USA. Most of the ones stamped SCHRADE WALDEN NY did not have the pattern stamping on the back, but some of them also had all blades stamped. Note the words "most" and "usually", anything is possible... Also of interest is the 4th pin on the back handle.

No number on the blade.
Hey guys,first post over here.:)
I bought this old beauty off Jeepin & it does have 861 on the back of the main,it was hiding under some rust is all.
It's got some very worn mill work on the back also & I was wondering if it is normal for the mill work to cut into the springs & bolsters as on this guy?
Any info on milling the backs would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Myke

That is typical of the milled liners, especially on a knife from this era, although the milling varied from knife to knife. I think it was a fairly manual process that got a little more exact in the 1960's. This knife is from the early to mid 1950's I would say. Not all of the bone handled 861 knives were milled.

Thanks thawk,I checked the catalogs & the 57 edition didn't list milled backs so I figure it's at least a year older than myself, seeing as how I was produced in 57.
