Can anyone identify this old axe head?

I found this old head in a barn. I can't tell you much about it other than what you see in the photos. It was once painted blue, one side has a "2 1/4" stamp and one side has some unintelligible writing. I'm hoping some of the experts here can identify the maker. Thanks.

If you put some paint remover on the head you'll be able to read the makers mark. The 2 1/4 means 2 1/4 pounds.

hard to tell, but the second pic looks like it says "MADE IN W. GERMANY." There were some good axes made there.

If I am reading the writing incorrectly then I would guess it to be a Hults Bruk based on the blue paint and weight stamped on the head.

I have a Mueller and sons axe from Germany and its that color of blue looks like its in good shape a new handle and a sharpen bobs your uncle :D

Thanks for the replies. It looks like "Made in W. Germany" for sure, especially after applying a little bit of paint remover. Is that normal for a European maker to stamp pounds instead of kilos into the head?

Yeah despite the rust it appears to be in good shape. Just looking at the cutting edge it looks like it's barely been used.

Here's the axe and another maul I found cleaned up a bit and re handled. The maul says "Japan" and the letters WE.. before it becomes unclear. I believe it's a standard early eighties maul one would find in feed stores. Seems like decent quality.

Someone else told me the chopping axe is probably an Iltis/Oxhead. Seems like good quality steel whatever it is.
