I'm just wondering about which model Old Timer this is and, if I'm lucky, the approximate date that it may have been produced?

Thanks in Advance,
GeoThorn

I know it needs some cleaning, but my buddy only let me take pictures. ;) It works like it's brand-new, just out of the box...and just as sharp!

That's a great little knife! It is a Schrade OLD TIMER (108OT) called the "Junior". I don't know the dates of production but find it listed in the 1981, 2000, and 2004 catalogs.

The Uncle Henry equivalent is the 807UH J.R.

Hope this helps.

I bought one this fall from a mom and pop store that had been a Freds Discount store until the mid eighties. It was in an old display case and they sold it to me for the Freds sticker price of $16.00. At that price it was quite a bargain, so I went back and bought another one just like it and three different ones, cleaning them out of Schrades! I personally like the carbon steel blades on the Old Timer and the nice patina they take on. If you like it also, just peel an apple or two and it will have a pretty even color. If, however, you like a pretty shiny blade, you can use white auto body polish to shine it up nicely.

They really are not rare since they were produced for so many years, but they are for the most part well designed and made, so if yours is used, it would make a very nice every day carry knife. I carry mine most of the time when I am not working construction. I switch to the bigger 897UH then.

I have no idea when they were first made, but production continued right to the very end. I bought one of the factory closeouts from Smoky Mountain Knife Works for $12.99. If you want one like your friend's, SMKW still has them in stock, as well as a few other OldTimer models. Since Schrade went out of business, the OldTimer and Uncle Henry knives have become quite collectable. You can check eBay for the going price.

I'm sure someone will post soon with a start date for that knife. I know they've been making OldTimer knives for many decades, but I can't be precise.

Best Wishes,
Bob

Wow, you guys are alot of help!

My friend that owns the knife is 76-years-old and I'm not sure if he bought it or if his father or grandfather might've given it to him, so, we might be looking for the start date of production!

If everyone keeps adding the bits and pieces that they know about it, I'm sure that the whole story will be listed here soon! :)

Codger that's a helluva find you made! Sounds like a great idea, seeking-out the stores that've been there since the sixties/seventies/eigthies and might have an old Schrade display case hiding-out under dust and ancient inventory forms! :)

Geothorn,
The little 108OT "Junior" was 1st produced in 1964 at a whopping retail cost of 5.35 and 29.95 in 2004.
Nice pocket carry.

Doesn't the tang stamp put it at post '72 production? Otherwise it would say "Walden" as well.

So I guess that might put it at about 30years old or younger?

Oh well, I'll go back to lurking, carry on, UHLS...

That is correct Glenn. It matches my circa early 1980's 108OT tang stamp. If memory serves me right, they continued the Walden stamp for a couple of years after their move to Ellenville. At least on some of the knives.

Cute little knife, I gave one of those to my younger brother in law sometime in the early 80's, he was about 15 years old at the time, it didn´t take him long loose it.
