Hi,
I was just given an old folder by a friend. It is the, best made, tightest, heaviest Schrade I've ever seen. Of coure that don't mean much :) It's one of those you see and say, "they sure don't make them like this anymore."

Overall 8 3/4 " Blade 4" Wooden handle

Blade stamped Schrade+ USA 187

It has a serial # on brass H31645

Any help appreciated Art

Art,
Welcome to the Schrade group. Home of Uncle Henry's Lost Souls.
Please take another look at that tang stamp. Could it be a LB7?
Lots of help available here. Specially for a great lockback like the one you have.

I think you guys are right, if you open the blade all the way it sure looks like 187. But if you open just part way it give the true # LB7. Sometime I'm clueless without help.

But it's sure made of a different quality you see these days, then again what isn't.
Thanx Art :D

The LB7 Bear Paw was first in the catalog in 1979 and came with a leather sheath. The wood handles were first called "Winewood", then the name changed in the 2003 catalog to "Fibron impregnated woodgrain". The earlier knives had four pins showing and later knives had only three pins showing. Former factory historian UH Fan posted about this a while back.

Theis knife has been a favorite platform of Schrade for commemoratives and special editions like the Scrimshawed SC507, Heritage 070, and it is the basis for the 6OT,7OT in the old Timer line, as well as for the LB8 Papa Bear introduced in 1982. They were considered a part of the Uncle Henry Signature series, though the did not bear the shield.

An interesting side note is the series name "BEAR" as in LB1 Cub , LB2 Li'l Bear , LB3 Brown Bear , LB5 Smokey , LB7 Bear Paw , and LB8 Papa Bear . In case you did not know, Uncle Henry's name was Henry Baer and Imperial Schrade was owned and operated for the most part by the Baer family.
