So theres an item up on ebay thats pretty interesting looking which I'm curious about. this sword is listed as a "decorative broadsword made in India" and is tagged as antique. I've never seen this particular kind of sword before and i don't know if this is a fake antique, a genuine antique or based off of an antique. regardless I'd like to know what the sword is, or if its a fake, what it's trying to be.

That thing's hung like an acorn.

Windlass made them in the early 90's, the "Barbarian Sword" I think. Totally fantasy, not based on anything, but they did get a muscle guy to do the leather loincloth and headband for the Conan look in the ads. Ironically, I saw even cheaper knockoffs pop up at even lower quality. It is absolutely hilarious that it is tagged antique......If you want to see the fantasy vein they were trying to tap into, google Albion Atlantian.

They still make the Barbarian sword, see museumreplicas.com, atlantacutlery.com, kultofathena.com. The new ones look a hell of a lot better. Why bother with ebay?

I've compared this sword with Conan reproductions and they're not the same. They have a similar general shape, but the dimensions, proportions, edge geometry and details around the hilt and guard. The guard is a completely different shape. So either the Conan sword was influenced by this type of sword, or this is a knockoff. But it definitely isn't directly pulled inspiration wise from Conan.

I could see this potentially being one of those cheaper knockoffs. Definitely isn't a direct replica of a Conan sword but I can see it being a replica of a replica.

I do think it's cool how the brass runs down the sides of the foregrip area just past the guard.

As previously said, these were made by Windlass and were absolutely inspired by the sword in the Conan movies. In fact, they used to offer another sword called the Eastern Barbarian which was loosely based on Valeria's sword, and was advertised alongside the regular "Barbarian." I know, because I bought one and still have it! They didn't have any official relation to the movies, or anything "Conan" for that matter, but they were marketed in a way to take advantage of the movies' popularity. I think the first time I saw these swords was around 1986 or 1987 in the Museum Replicas catalog, and they sold for $80 or $90. The one pictured above looks like it was stored in it's sheath in a damp environment and was never oiled. They are very low end.......

Marto in Spain had a license to produce a Conan Sword. It was purely decorative, and didn't match the movie sword; but it was better than this.

BTW, Jody Samson made the original. Close replicas are still be made by they are pricy,

The Conan swords were created by Jody Samson as was previously noted. This sword is a knockoff. Knock offs by their nature must be different from the originals in order to avoid lawsuits.
