I am not knowledgeable about knifes; I found this forum through a web search. This knife was my grandfather's and I was hoping to find out more about it. Thanks for any help you can offer. There are two picture links here:

I can't get links to work. Try uploading through photobucket.
You can search for photo posting thread also.

That link works, I have no idea on the knife though. Awesome to have family knives!

....I think that what looks like Arabic script actually says "victory"....

And, I found two other places that seem to confirm it.

I would call it a "persian dagger", in terms of the overall shape. A private collection that has been archived online, and a closed auction, show knives with similar engravings.

According to the collector's site, these knives were engraved with the word "victory" and given to GI's in Europe, at the end of WWII. I'm going to guess that this is what you have.

Pesh Kabz, perhaps?

I thought that at first, too. But the Pesh-Kabz is slightly different in shape, and intended for a different purpose.

A "Persian dagger" can be anything with this same general shape. And, as such, the Pesh-Kabz is a "Persian dagger", but, it is a special type, within the general category.

The Pesh-Kabz is specifically meant for penetrating armor, and it's blade shape, and cross-section, are a little different from the dagger grind that you see on Uemuzikan's example.

So, a Pesh-Kabz is a Persian dagger, but not all Persian daggers are Pesh-Kabz(es?)

Conjugating non-English nouns is not always easy...

Edit: sorry, it's a "long clip point", not a dagger grind. :foot:

It looks like a version of the Koumia dagger, a type of Jambya, from Morocco.
