I don't know if ChuckG still visits or not, he hasn't replied to my emails so I don't know what's going on.
Can any of you guys/girls out there make a brass handle for a large (15" OAL) Taylor Golden Dragon balisong?
The people that I can think of that could do it would be ChuckG, Dawkind, Darrel Ralph, and maybe a few others, the problem would be getting it extremely close to the proportions of the existing bite handle.
Thanks

2 words for you Cam, Mauricio Dobruski!!! He can make an amazing, amazingly priced balisong. He does Brass, SS, and Ti. As well as Inserts and skelitonized. I think the his price for a Brass one is like $250...

I am probably going to get one soon, They look awesome!!!

I have one in for photographs right now that is a Benchmade blade but has wonderful brass handles nicely made by Steve Vogler, Epigram79@aol.com. I've taken several pictures of it, but nothing I like. I took some more yesterday but haven't got them developed yet. I might get to that tomorrow. It's very time-consuming, you know. Anyway, it's a nice looking balisong with wonderful brass handles. I'll post pictures soon.

epigram: do you know if you can make a brass safe handle to match the bite handle of a Taylor Golden Dragon??

I miss knives like that. I wish BM would make a brass handled knife. My Fox (INOX) brass knife is striking (I got it from www.skm.to). Speaking of striking, ask my best friend about the time he somehow handlewhipped himself in the head attempting something (Im not quite sure WHAT the hell he was doing) and ended up semiconscious. I had taped the blade, the point was taped really well as I was doing airials but it could have been a LOT worse than a knot on his noggin. oh well everyone makes mistakes.

Hi!

Here's a picture of brasshandles i did in school, after i broke the handles of a cheapie.
This was made something like 10 years ago.
Brass does have a special feeling while manipulating, i wouldn't mind to be able to buy me a few!

Cameron,
I'm sorry, but I don't have access to a milling machine anymore. I made that at school and I'm graduating in 3 days...yes, I'm very exited! At home I don't have a mill either. So I really can't help you out. If I could, I would. I plan on buying a small mill after I get a job, so if you still can't find someone to do it in about 6-8 months, then I might be of help!

Chuck,
That picture looks outstanding! It has already replaced my old wallpaper (the one on your site of the 42 by the fruit bowl)! I'm very excited to see how the rest of them turn out. The lighting, background, display, and everything else looks great! I really like it.

I'd like to point out that Sabo is the one who brought out the true beauty in those handles. I had sent him the knife for polishing and was amazed when I got it back. Sabo transformed that brass from a dull roughly sanded finish to a gleaming professional mirror finish! Anything else I happen to make (I'm in the middle of making another, complete knife. To be continued when I get access to a milling machine again.) will definately be sent to him for finishing; if he doesn't mind. I recommend Sabo very highly to anyone who might have a project of their own and would like to put on that finishing professional touch.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. They are appreciated.

On a side note, Chuck, my birthday was on the 5th. Posting that picture here made an excellent belated birthday present! Thanks again.

Don't let Steve (aka Epigram79) fool ya...those handles were awesome long before I ever set eyes on them! They are smooth in the rolls and heavy, just as you thought all that brass would be. (But not to heavy)! They let you know that there is a REAL edged tool in your hand.

I wish this guy would go into business! Look forward to the next one Steve. If all else fails, you can use my presses.

Dawkind was venturing into making balisongs a little while back. That is if I remember correctly.

Short answer, yes. The problem is the time it takes to measure, then machine one handle, and charge you a price that would be reasonable considering the time invested by the maker, would be roughly equivalent to what a complete 15" would cost at a show. Stated another way, mass production helps keep costs down. I do this sort of thing for my own amusement, but it is time consuming. Have you thought about getting a chunk of brass, and attacking it with a drill and file?

Please take your seats gentlemen; oh, and flip 'em if you've got 'em.

I don't know where I could get brass (or any other metal for that matter). I decided not to buy the bali so it doesn't really matter anymore if someone can make me a handle, I spent the money on a custom Bali-Song
