My son and I were fishing the other day and we saw a sport case floating just below the surface of the water and this was inside. Its a Frost Cutlery ????? and what is its purpose? It has a very short edge and then saw or scaling teeth at the rear. To me it seems like it should be a skinning knife but the edge is way too short. Anyone know what model this is? I cant find it FC website.

Frost has produced about a zillion odd patterns over decades. Not sure specifically what this one was intended for. BUT, it has some elements reminiscent of a skinner and/or a 'bird & trout' knife, both of which might feature the short, upswept blade and pointy tip (ala Schrade's 'Sharpfinger' skinner). I have seen one or two 'bird & trout' knives with the hole in the blade (OR, a hole at the rear of the tang) for inserting a finger for a more secure grip when wet/bloody.

On the other hand, it may be just one of many patterns released by Frost that just simply looked 'cool' (to someone, anyway).

Looks like the Fraud Cut- er, 'scuse me, Frost Cutlery Cat Skinner. You found the ultra-rare pakka-wood version. You can retire now. :D

It'll do just fine for snapping caps off of barly pops and shucking oysters for the barbie then wont it.

I got the same knife, a friend I deer hunted with gave it to me and it immediately went into my "Junkers" box of cheap knives, I never get rid of any gift knife. Rick and I never had any luck when we deer hunted together and sorry to say that he has now passed on. The knife has now been upgraded to my "Special" box and will never be sold as long as I am alive. Thanks for bringing back the memory of my old friend.

RIP Ricky.

I believe that is the "Cat skinner". Years ago, i read an article about the top selling knives from different manufacturers. At that time, the "Cat skinner" was Frost's top selling model,.regards Henry
