Can anyone tell me if the thumb studes on this knife are original.

No, it looks like that's been modded. To the best of my knowledge SOG did not make a Stingray with both nail nick AND thumbstud. Also, SOG doesn't use microtechishly giant thumbstuds. It looks to me like that is something that clamps onto the top of the blade and could be added to almost any folder.
 
Like other's have said, the Stingray didn't come with thumb studs. The one that you see in the pictures is called a One-Arm Bandit stud, or something like that.
