Can anyone tell me something about this Fuegan bowie?

And/or provide a better photo?

The reason I'm asking is, this is the first knife by an ABS mastersmith that I ever laid eyes on.
It was also one of the first damascus blades I'd ever seen, and got me started on the road to making damascus myself.

Thanks in advance,

Phillip, I'm just about positive that Bowie was on Larry's Blade Show table in 2006.
Or one very close it. I remember my seriously pondering over buying it. That beauty sparked my interest in Fuegen knives. The monetary value of Larry's bowies have gone up quite a bit since that one. I believe I will contact Larry to see if my memory is correct.

Yes, but since I'm not a paying customer of his, I would hate to take his time.

Are you nuts?

Larry has given, and continues to give massive amounts of time to other makers, or anyone simply interested in his work.

He will give you exactly the time you need, no more, no less.

To put it succinctly, Phillip, nothing ventured, NOTHING gained.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I doubt that's a problem Phillip:thumbup:. It's not always 'just about the money'.
Contact the man, I'm sure he'd be thrilled to hear from someone who got their start in part due to him, especially someone like you who is really making a good go of it. If he doesn't want to give you his time, then I don't think he'd let you take any from him:).

Well, then, I'll shoot him an email, and see what happens.

And since you asked, I don't think I'm nuts. :D

Edited to add: I'm not afraid of asking makers for help in learning the craft, but to satisfy my own curiosity about something like this, seems like a possible waste of their time. But if you say he wouldn't mind, then I'll take your word for it. :)

I met Larry just after Thanksgiving at a very small seminar that he was putting on in Maine. He is one hell of a nice guy, great teacher and very matter of fact about the fact about the unbelievable knives he makes. I would not hesitate to contact him if I were you.

You would be better off to call him. Larry isn't super keen on e-mail(he types slowly).

Tim Hancock's work had the same effect on me. The first time I mustered up the courage to call the man we talked for three hours and he left me with my head spinning.

Since this matter of ONE knife that drew you in came up, I handled one of Wolfe's 'Wing' folders in 1998 at my first show. I dragged my rusty pocketknife accomplice over there to ogle it.

That night, I was all over the 'net searching Custom Knives....

Larry is a great guy and he keeps a very detailed record on his knives:thumbup: I once bought one of his knives that he made in 1988 and he could tell me everything about it (and with everything I mean everything)!!
