Its from around the 60s I think and all it says is valor #518 japan

A picture or more info would help. I searched "valor 518 knife japan" and the second result was an old auction for a horn handled, swing guard knife. It is probably not from the 60s but closer to the 80s. I'm not very familiar with the brand however.

Yeah Valor stuff is mostly mid 70's + or so.
I've heard they had some decent stuff at times, but most of it was pretty much mall ninja quality.
 
Valor use to import some of the early Japanese knives. Some of those were good knives, not expensive, but certainly well above junk knife. I remember them mostly from the 70s.

Valor Corp of Miami imported a lot of knives during the late 70s/80s from Seki Japan and into early 90s when they started importing some knives from China. Their stuff ranged from very good to very crappy. So which model the 518 is makes a huge difference.
