It's a bayonett of some sort. It's seen some abuse - - the formerly straight edge has a big gouge taken out of it. Almost looks like someone tried to sharpen it with a large (5" or so diameter i'd guess) wheel grinder, and the part that is still straight is about as sharp as a beach ball so I'm not under any delusion that it'd be a valuable knife -- - I'm just curious as to what it is. The guy at the army surplus store had no clue what it was, nor do any of the people I know who are or have been in the armed forces, which leads me to believe it may be a foriegn military blade. I found the thing under a rock in an abandoned gravel pit near St. Paul, MN about 15 years ago. For all I know the stupid thing's a murder weapon, but I was just a little kid and didn't know anything other than I'd found a knife and it was cool. My stupid scanner's broken so I can't u/l a picture, but here's the description:
All black. Handle heavy. It's a sling-under-rifle bayonett design with the ring on the top doubling as a hand guard and a rectangular locking hole in the butt of the handle. The handle is contoured and has a diamond grip pattern etched into the metal. The only marking on the blade is "Stainless" right where the blade joins the handle. it's about a 9" straight single edged blade which curves up to the tip.
Does that give enough clues to get a possible ID on this thing or do I need to find more detail?
Thanx
