Does anyone else think the can/bottle opener will soon become an obsolete function on multi-tools? I mean, most bottles are twist tops and a lot of cans are getting pull tops now. So, being the average can/bottle wont need an opener anymore what do you guys think should replace it in a multi-tool? (In other words what other function would you want in a multi-tool?) Kinda a double part question. ;)

It's the most used bit of my multitools. Maybe we're a bit begind on the ring pull in the UK (we still think digital watches are a neat idea). I think they will be here for a long while yet.
I think another flat blade screw driver would just find it's way in

Obsolete? Nope. First of all, I know a lot of guys use the can/bottle opener on their Leatherman as a hoof pick or scraper -- it has a lot of alternate uses. Secondly, and perhaps more important, in much of the world you still need a caplifter to open most bottles and pull-top cans are few and far between.

I'd gladly give up the can opener for another blade. I think the way the Swiss tool does it is the best - it is incorporated as part of a screwdriver blade so you aren't giving up the blade position JUST for a can opener. I think they are a waste of space.

I would rather have either an additional driver blade or an awl.

I use the bottle opener almost as much as the blade. The only twist off caps on bottles I know of are soda bottles... Most every beer bottle (at least good beer) I can think of still needs an opener.
