Hi guys, I want to put a Gunkote finish on my jackhammer & would like to know can the mircata handle take the heat, bake in oven at 300 degree for 1 hour? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Canvas or linen should be OK. Paper micarta is a different story..

Of course take off the handles first.

micarta is micarta is micarta, busse micarta is no different. But I agree with removing them to coat the blade.

i agree, micarta is used for electrical insulator board, but take um off.......but i bet that epoxy will start stinkin...

i warped a set at 300 a few years ago doing the same thing you are going to do, guncote.
they didn't warp at 280 but got slick and started to show gaps at 300
take them off, it's easy to do, and if not stay at 275 and your guncote will be blacker in color too.
don't bake cookies at the same time or they will taste like rat crap :thumbdn:

ps: at 275 you just leave them in for a while longer and you will get the same abrasion resistance as when done at 300, or so i was told by the factory guy.

pps: when you take your knife out of the oven don't touch the micarta till it is totally cool, it will show slick marks and leave finger prints, trust me!

peepeepees: make sure you post pics of your wreck or this thread will be totally worthless.
