I was just checking to see if I would beable to use the top of my cars window to sharpen my busse, as I dont have an actual sharpener at the moment, I know it will work on other steels but will it work for Infi?, and how long would it take?, any help would be appreciated, thanks..

Welll..... there's one method I haven't tried.

Usually, if I find myself that strapped for a sharpening device, I don't have access to a car window either.

I sure can't think of a single reason why not... Glass would be much "harder" then INFI so it should work fine.

Why don't you just use a flower pot, or a plate? I'm sure that you cvould find a suitable rock also. Never thought about trying my car windows, that's a good one:D

You can use it as a burnisher, almost anything can do this, even the shank of a screwdriver for example. However in general burnishing without metal removal isn't a good idea because it produces a weakened edge. This is especially critical on large heavy chopping knives.

Cliff,
We used to liven an edge on fencing wire in the cattle yards when marking all day. (castrating). The purpose was to lightly steel it to straighten the edge. It worked fine, your really not taking metal off. The steel I’ve had for years is completely smooth.
Ian.

Ian, yes it works, as blunting for many types of cutting is mainly induced by deformation, and thus if you align the edge it gets back to sharp. However this leaves a strip of weakened metal along the edge. On a heavy chopping knife this is now more prone to chipping and tearing, thus for such knives it is better to use at least a mild abrasive like a fine ceramic rod or a loaded strop to remove some of the weakened metal when "steeling".
