I have a Crooked River with a couple lighter streaks I'm not too fond of. It was made this year so not Dymondwood but stabilized wood and I've never dealt with it before. Wood (pun) it be a bad idea to use everyday stain from the hardware store in red in infused wood?

I doubt it, the stabilized wood is impregnated with resin, so the wood itself is not porous any more. Stain probably won't work, but Rit dye might, I'm not sure? how light is it? My CR has mostly dark wood, but I like the look of some of the lighter ones.

Personally, I wood (pun intended...) leave it as is. Use it, have fun with it. If you still don't warm up to it, gift it to someone you like, and pick one at a store that you fancy. I have done that. Everybody wins.
