I've got a little side project in mind, but it would require being able to bend the g10. Can this be done with heat?

I have no clue, but then I would guess not. The fiberglass grid is piable, but I dunno about the matrix it is imbedded in.

But a side note.. carbon fiber is pliable, I've seem them use it a lot for synthetic limbs and other stuff.. might be a good alternative?

NO!! :)

No amount of heat will allow you to bend G10. Its stability is what makes it a good for knife handles as well as many other applications.

CF can only be wet formed or worked while it's curring much the same way as fiberglass.

I guessed right about the G-10 ! cool :D

About the carbon fiber however.. I've seen them make prothesis of the stuff, as well as shell where the put babies in who can't crawl or walk, and they move around on their butts. My girlfriend works in an institute for walking disorders, she is a revalidation specialist for children. And they do walk around with carbon fiber plates bent to all kinds of forms, because it's light and wearrestistant.
I dunno how, but they do shape it from a 4 mm plate - which is great carbon fiber for knife handles - to foot shapes. So there has to be some way to bend carbon fiber.

it's either this or I'm missing something bad here :D

They probably form it while it's curing, as mentioned...

(any chance you can get some of those plates?:D )

Yes it can be bended a limited amount with heat. I don't remember exactly but the epoxy used has a Tg around 135C, at slightly higher temps it can be bended somewhat. If you overdo it it breaks. Keep it deformed when it cools down and it'll retain the new shape. You can't stretch it though because of the reinforcement, only bend.
