Can Griv-Ex be used to make plastic sheaths?

Totally a balls in the air random suggestion, but I was wondering if Griv-Ex can replace Secure-Ex as a low-cost sheath for fixed blades. With Secure-Ex, the glass liner can dull your edge as the knife is drawn out and put back in.

In my experience, the Griv-Ex Cold Steel uses for its folder scales seems to be a robust hard plastic, although I have no knowledge of its exact composition. No cracking or warping issues so far with my Voyager and Rajah scales. Since it’s already available for the company to use, can it be used to make sheaths as well?

It’s still reinforced with fiberglass so I doubt it would be an improvement.

Sometimes the best solution is to not cut corners and just do it right. If nothing else, Cold Steel should offer aftermarket leather and Kydex sheaths on their website.
