Can I ask a knifemaker question?

I have a Bushcraft which I love (3V Penetrator) but I know little about how it was made.

The Corby Rivet / Pin. Do you screw that in and then grind down the pin to match the handle?

What Glue do you use? Do you rough up the surface of the tang before gluing?

Do the lanyard holes help with securing the handle - or does the pin and the glue mostly handle that?

I noticed your blanks are water jetted - what work do you do personally Dan - and what do you have others do?

I hope these questions are not to sophomoric.

Corby pin - yes, it is a mechanical fastener...male end mated to a female end, tightened down during glue-up. After glue-up it is sanded to match the handle. Glue is put in the both drilled-out holes as well as inside the threaded female end.

I use Devcon 2-ton epoxy. I have used other glues with success....it just happens that the 2-ton stuff is readily available in quantities large enough for me. I get 5-6 knives per "tube". I do rough-up and clean the surfaces before glue-up...on both the handles and the tang.

The lanyard does act as a pin and is suprisingly strong. But the corby pins do most of the work (more than the glue).

On the bushcraft knives, I do everything except profiling (done by waterjet) and heat-treating (done by Paul Bos - unless it is one made of O1, then I do the heat-treat myself). Waterjet cutting doesn't really save me any money...but saves oodles of time....and it ensures that each blank is exactly the same.

I do have pics floating around my forum...and I'm in the process of putting together a few more tutorials.

Eyes peeled!
