I don't know what the knife laws are in your area, but more than likely your school's policy is even more restrictive. Schools are generally in the clutches of liberals, who all seem to fear guns and knives. Therefore, they tend to ban those items and apply "zero tolerance" to those who violate their prohibitions. Find out what the school's policy is, and then you can make an informed decision as to whether or not you obey it. As for NY's knife laws, visit the school library and look them up. Any halfway decent library will have copies of your state's statutes. They can also be found on-line.

rossshady120, NY (outside of NYC) bans the carry of switchblades and gravity knives, and daggers and dangerous knives. I beleive the penal law does not mention knives per se in the school section, but you can check ( section 265.00). The Penal law states anyone one carrying a "dangerous knife" and is 16 or under is a youthful offender. I live in Nassau also and for the most part the knife laws is not as strickly enforced as in NYC, but they are enforced. There were a few arrest for knife sales last week at a train station on Sunrise highway, and about two months ago I was shopping at the Broadway Mall in Hicksville when two plain cloths officers checked three teenagers at the front of the Mall and discover one had a knife which the officer was able to flick open...the kid was in handcuffs in the back of the unmarked car in a minute.....I would not carry a knife to school and I suggest to only carry a small, non locking knife at other times....

Where I'm at college, you're only allowed a 3 inch blade, but otherwise the only restrictions are those of the state. i usually leave my knife in my room or in my backpack, and am extra-careful when and where I use it. No problems yet.

At my college you aren't allowed any weapons in the res halls, I found out the hard way by them checking rooms at Thanksgiving and me having my hunting knife on my bed, it was confiscated, but i was able to get it back. RA's and CA's aren't really looking for blades though so unless its in the open your prolly ok.

You have to look at the school policies, maybe even ask the campus police.

The school I'm a grad student at allows all legal knives; in dorms as well as around campus. In Texas, that means a knife with a blade 5.5 inches or less, fixed or folding.
