Steven Dick recommended getting a copy of the Forest Service manual, "An axe to grind" in an article in New Pioneer, and I believe has mentioned it before in Tactical Knives. I found it online, but I would like a hardcopy, and not a printed PDF file. I've seen them for sale on Amazon, but can I get a free copy from the Forestry Service?

I'm not sure if they offer a printed version of the content on the site, but I know there's a DVD on axe maintenance and trail work you can get from them for free.

Yes, in Montana at least, as reported here by bearhunter on 5/29/11:

i was in town last week and picked up 'AN AXE TO GRIND' at the missoula technology development center (USFS). its fantastic. i also picked up a crosscut saw maintenaice manual, crosscut saw 'how to book', and a crosscut saw information dvd. all for "free". they are all very nice info books/booklets.
at least i'm getting something for all these damn taxes;)
i'd recommend anyone interested in these subjects to take advantage of these. they'll be in my book collection until i'm gone...lots of great info...

I can't seem to PM or email you?

So, I did a quick search on here, but didn't find this info.

This whole video is on youtube. It is probably the most informing video any new guys could ever watch, I learned lots. It is amazing how thinned out he made that wedge, something I have NOT being doing. I feel like I am finally going to do a hang right on my next one.

silenthunterstudios- If you have trouble getting what you need in hard copy or video, let me know and I will call the Forest Service and see that they help you.
