Hi all,

I own a vintage L.E. Wood (made in MASS) 6" Butcher knife. I believe this knife to be at least one hundred years old (if not older). The metal (type unknown to me) Bolster has come apart. Can one use some "special" glue to secure the (now two pieces) Bolster back into the handle ? Any if so, what type/brand Glue ? The handles I think are (if memory serves) Rosewood and the slabs are attached with six pins.
Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Hi blunt,

Until I get my new Computer (shorty) I am unable to post pixs.

Might wait to get that resolved first. The quality of advice you get will very likely be much better, if the experts here can clearly see what you're dealing with.

I think, in general terms, most makers use two-part epoxy for securing handle slabs and maybe bolsters, and the guards are often soldered/brazed into place. But that's about the limit of what I can contribute here. Might be other issues of cleaning or prepping surfaces before the 'glue' goes on, and that's something that could be greatly illuminated with some clear photos.

Hi OwE,

Good points. Once I get up and running with the new Computer (sometime next week) I'll do my best to post pixs of the situation. Thanks.

You can glue it on. Several times. Eventually, you will find a better method of attachment.
"JB Weld" is just epoxy with ground aluminum in it.
