Much as I am leary of buying a blade I have never handled, I wasa on the verge of buying a Strider from a mailorder source. Just one question: I am left handed and wanted to make sure the thumb stud was eithe dual or ambi. So I called Buck's 800#. Got a guy who sounded kind of anoyed at my question. Of course it wasen't ambidexterous. No, thumb stud couldn't be reversed. Sorry I asked him.

So, let me ask the Forum : was the Buck guy right? Seems like it should be possible to either reverse or replace the thumb stud.....or is this an impossible dream?

I have a Strider in BG42, it looks to me that the thumb stud can be reversed. If not, just take it off and get a One Armed Bandit... Problem solved.:)

I am also a lefty, and I have owned a Buck Strider. Yes, the thumbstud can be reversed, but it won't fit very well. It's the screw that hold the thumbstud secured that does not fit well.

It was a small annoyance, but it's why I sold mine. Why not just put two thumbstuds on the thing in the first place? Hell, I'm not griping for a lefty friendly version, just a lefty neutral version...

I'd also like to see a dual thumb stud made available separately, but in the meantime my three Strider-Bucks all work just fine with the studs reversed. The only thing is that the screw does not fit flush...the head can be seen just slightly above the surface of the blade, about 1/32 of an inch. Just a matter of personal preference.

I asked the same question here about a year ago and one of the Strider Knives guys said yes, the stud can be reversed.

Maury,
Sorry for the "annoyed" response you got from our customer service department. I will speak to them on Monday and remind them who we work for!
To answer your question, I have heard of folks reversing the thumb stud. It is not perfect as the blade has a counter bore for a flush fit on the side it is assembled on, but it can be done.

Well, after my post in this thread, something "clicked", and I found myself wanting a Buck Strider again, despite my complaints..
Anyway, it arrived today, and I must say it's a great knife.

I did have a bit of trouble reversing the thumbstud, but it was nothign a little heat would not have fixed. Anyway, the best way I found to reverse the thumbstud was to shim out the screw a bit with a very very small washer, so the everthing holds tightly. Just reversing without the washer left the thumbstud a bit loose for some reason.

I sure would like to see a dual thumbstud version made available, but in the meantime, yes, I guess reversing the thumbstud works well enough.
