Go ahead and do yourself a favor and get a higher end knife. The cheaper ones are OK but don't compare with the upper end. Spend a $100 and get a Para 2 and you will be content for a while.

Agreed. I bought a Byrd Cara Cara 5 years ago as a first knife. Way to leave a bad first impression, and it mostly sat unused in a desk drawer. Stainless steel was horribly heavy and slippery, it was dull from the factory, and I did not factor in size at all. "This is what knives are like?" I just thought I was getting bang for the buck. Then I got a proper Spyderco last year after doing more research, and I was relatively floored.

ok i just pulled the trigger on a manix 2 xl be here later in the week!! cant wait.

I'm right there with you on this one; I have 50+ unique Kershaw part numbers, a few CRKT's, a couple of Schrades, a few SAK's, and a couple of Benchmades, but just recently got my first Spyderco, a Tenacious, and I really like it, especially for the price, and I just this morning ordered my second Spyderco, a Paramilitary2 @ with DigiCam scales and DLC coated blade (I can hardly wait to get it!).

First you need to open a checking account with the BOS (Bank of Sal). Your paycheques will be direct-deposited there. At the end of every month you may withdraw a small allowance for things like food and beer.

:D

I've been carrying and using Spyderco knives since 92 or thereabouts. I'll be honest and say that it's a great time to begin collecting or just EDC'ing Spydies. Some of the very best of the best in a long line of models are currently available. It's easy to get lost in the model numbers and website lists but some of the knives are truly stunning performers. That's what it's all about with spyderco. If they look good, fine and dandy. It's performance that drives the brand. Ergonomics and pure cutting and slicing performance in a deep selection of performance cutlery and tool steels held together with precision designs and first class materials balanced with the best locks and handle materials.

I guess I sound like a magazine ad but pick up the Stretch ,a Chokwe, the Persian, the police 3, the Gayle Bradley , the Super Blue Caly 3.5 sprint (*note) or, one of my all time new favorites the C149G Vallotton. Any of these could easily be my "one" knife. That's just touching the surface, and only mentioning current production not past models or nostalgic items.

Joe

*note: Super Blue spring, while not currently in production is way too good not to mention it on this list of some of my all time favorites that are still in produvtion.
