My first Becker arrived this morning, a little disappointed it's the older generation.

Now what mods?????

get rid of that sheath or mod it.. it scrapes the crap out of the edge and dulls it really fast. due to the fact its not kydex but a form of fiberglass that ruins the edge.. check on utube and youll see a fellow doing a test and a few insert and removals and the edge wont cut paper anymore.. just an fyi.
 
Congrats on your new knife and welcome, most strip and add some micarta. I say do what feels right!.......... beat it like it owes you money. Hell of a knife.

Damn, glad I saw your post! I've got the same sheath as Jaytaylor and thought it dulled a bit since I've been handling it, but couldn't figure out why since I hadn't cut anything. Thanks for the info! Now what to do to fix it....
 
get a azwelke kydex, his dont touch the blade. or maybe a skystorm leather rig.. im also pretty sure you could remove some material on the interior of the stock one but i just went with the kydex route for mine.

Definitely upgrade the sheath. I like a bit of inner tube around the handle for grip.
Oh, and loc-tite the handle hardware. yep yep.
 
-Convex the edge! trust me, it helps a ton!

First off, the GEN 1 is the BEST of them all. No cutouts in the tang, no hammer pommel. Man thats the beez neez right there. Convex the endge, upgrade the sheath and go make the woods beg for mercy.

Thanks androphonic for the feedback, I suspect the sheath has already dealt to the edge, its dull as sunday School.

I'll look into a kydex sheath and micarta scales.........need to get creative on the blade finish.

Are the micarta scales the only option? Any makers of ready to fit scales in say G-10?

What were the generational changes?

gen 1= no cut outs in tang, no hammer pommel
gen 2= tang cut outs, hammer pommel extension
gen 3= new tougher coating, laser etched logos (releasing soon. i guess after old stock is used up. They were just announce in January at the SHOT show)
 
and thats only the kabar versions. There are camillus versions, including a serrated model, and blackjack/effingham versions.
 
Just beat on it is the only suggestion I can make. As far as I know, that sheath, the first gen sheath, didn't have the dulling issues that the second gen sheaths had. I could be wrong though, so YMMV.

Honestly, once you get some use with it, it will tell you what it wants done. Beckers are good like that.
 
The classic becker mods:
Strip the coating
get micarta scales
Kydex/leather sheath

My signature mods:
Midnight tiger/tiger G-10
Gun blue
Convex
usually an overall chage of shape
