Can i kill shark with SOG seal Pup ?

Please, have you any advise ? I bought this knife a two years ago. Is still sharp but the tip is break. Please, help me boys from SOG ! :( It is breaking normal (thin of tip?, steel hard ?) or i have "happy" on one fail piece ? Hmm, i forget in USA is night :(

my seal pup better not break it cost me $135 australian dollars! but shark skin can stop bullets! (on dry land obviously as you wouldnt be using a gun under water that deep with any lethal effect) your best bet would be to stick it in in its eye and hiope the blood doesnt attract other sharks.

This sounds so Omega Doom-like (search for posts by former forum member Omega Doom to find ut more :rolleyes :D ). You can kill any friggin creature (animal/plant) with a friggin Victorinox, it just takes an extremely lucky hit. There.

Faramir,I concur. In through the eye or base of the brain stem.I'd say a long double edged wide blade.Would finish animal or at least disable it enough for you to make it away. What kind of sharks do ya' have in Czechoslavakia?I'm also sure LUCK would be the biggest factor.

Fred, any knife will kill a shark is you are lucky! You just have to use it as a fist filler. :D

I can't really say anything bad about mine as my experiences with the SOG SEAL Pup seems to be the exception to the rule. But why do they use AUS 8? Their designs are so good I just don't see why they use only a fair steel? I would have to no more about their heat treating process in order to make a definitve answer.

Hmm ... first post, can I kill shark? One hour twenty-two minutes later, the tip of the knife is broken. Okay, you tell us -- what kind of shape is the shark in? Is it dead or only wounded?

Also, have you tried the knife on an alligator?

I suggest you regrind the broken point to make it thicker and wider than it was originally. That seems to be needed for your particular uses. If you were only killing small thin-skinned fish like cod and barracuda the stock point would work well enough, but since you're a shark-killer you need a modified knife with a stronger point.

AUS-8 has excellent corrosion resistance, which is important if you're in and out of salt water all the time.

Then why does mine rust so easily? I leave it for a week in its sheath and it already shows signs of rust.

One of the first lessons taught to me as I learned Scuba was that when attacked by a shark, you must stab your diving partner. This is why one should never dive alone.

Remind me to never go diving with you :D

A lot of sharks in Prague, are there?

No, i broken tip on miniPentagon not in Pup. I read a book with shark theme and i have this idea - it is knife for seals not :) ?
If a knife can kill a shark, a seal should be no problem. Sneak up behind it when it's doing that balance-a-ball-on-its-nose crap and stab away.

A suggestion from someone who has over 500 hours logged dive time - Don't read books, find an ocean with lots of sharks, swim with them, notice how they manouver through the water, then notice how inept us humans are under water - Conclusion: forget about killing sharks with a knife. If a shark wants your ass in his back yard, it will be quick.
Now when a shark walks down the main street of Prague wearing a pinstripe suit, you might have a chance.
