Can I leave negative feedback on a no-sale?

Member here said, "I'll take it." We exchanged a couple of informational emails.
On the third of this month, he said he was getting a money order to me ASAP.
I've seen nothing and have had no response to two subsequent emails this past week.
IMO, after another week or so, if there's no reply or explanation, he deserves negative feedback for making promises and bailing.
Is there BFC policy on feedback if there's not been an actual exchange?
Who knows? His response and bail possibly cost me a sale to another party.

I sure have seen it done. But not sure what the actual rule is.

That does tick me off!

There was an "exchange": a promise for a promise. He did not keep his promise. That omission prevented others from buying and you from selling. That is worthy of notice.

Personally I would, you could have missed a sale while he was bailing on you. If the mods want to change it, that is their choice, but for me. Folks need to know, I sure would want to before I pulled a knife off the sale forum.
Just my opinion,
Jim

Do it. It is good to help everyone keep track of the weasels who post "I'll take it" without intending to keep their word. This forum only works when everyone keeps their word. Ones who don't need to be pointed out so others can take note and avoid them in the future.

Some sellers have been specifying immediate payment required. I can see specifying one day to pay or the item will be marked Still For Sale. This eliminates bidder's remorse or slow payers without putting you to the trouble of a FEEDBACK thread argument.

Well, he was supposed to send a MO. That takes up to a week sometimes. But it's been two as of today.
I'll send one more email. If I don't get any reply in the next week or so, I'm at least going to leave a note in GB&U.

You are way more patient than me!! I would leave an email saying you are moving on. Leave the feedback, and repost the knife. I have been in your shoes and that is exactly what I did. The lack of communication is unacceptable. Our community is a great one for sure, but some people dont understand the golden rule .
" treat others how you would like to be treated"

I think you should give it some more time and see maybe some emergency came up but you definitely need to leave feedback because today he's buying, tomorrow he's selling.

at least post who it is so others will know not to take the guys word that he will buy something only to have him bail out. has he been on the forums since his post in your sale thread?

Personally I don't think feedback should be left unless money or product changes hands. If this is allowed, what's to stop people on the other end leaving negative feedback for the seller refusing to sell to them,or being mean to them?

When feedback is left no one else can change it except for Spark, not even super-mods,so I don't think it should be left so haphazardly.Spark's got enough to do keeping this place running.

He does deserve a negative review thread in TGBU with his forum name in the header,to make him easily searchable.

Just my opinion...

I'd favor leaving feedback, or at least a bad review in GB&U. People who pull crap like that make it hard on all of us, including the person who would have bought the knife had it not been claimed by the non-paying buyer.

I have dealt with buyers like this unfortunately. I would post the relevant info on the sale thread and include the buyer's BF username. That way when sellers in the future would do a search on this guy's username they will know this particular transaction and it will aide them to decide if they want to do business with this buyer or not.

FIRST do NOT post iTrader feedback where no money or trade item has changed hands.SECOND you may post your story in FEEDBACK / GBU. That is the only proper forum for praise or blame.THIRD do NOT post comments in a sale or trade thread that casts praise or blame on seller or item. Doing so will earn you infraction points for Interfering in a Sale.READ the FAQ and the Rules for the Exchange.. You will find them in my signature block.

Esav, I took his comment to mean he'd post a comment in his own for sale thread. That's OK, isn't it?

I was mostly thinking about a GB&U thread. But I intended my question with iTrader in mind as well.
While I'll respect what Esav lays out above, I frankly wonder WHY it doesn't extend to iTrader.

A verbal agreement has been made. Payment has been promised. The buyer has pretty clearly bailed, costing me time and possibly sales.
I'm trying to think of the difficulties with this, but if BFC policy had a specified and adequate time (3 weeks? 4 weeks?) for getting payment in, that rule might stop bailers.

Possible difficulties...
Since a lot of members here seem to have the patience of gnats, I can see how allowing iTrader dings in such cases might prove cumbersome for the moderators.
Some folks would want to leave negative feedback after three hours rather than three weeks. Another difficulty I suppose lies in the proof since so many sales take place behind the scenes in emails.

Still, a bailer doesn't deserve a 100% positive rating IMO.
If this guy had kept up with communication, or told me later about an emergency or problems, or just told me he changed his mind, well then fine.
However, disappearing should not be an option for getting out of an agreed purchase/sale.
I've said "I'll take it" on knives and regretted the agreement in afterthought. However, I've always kept up my end of the bargain.
My biggest issue here is that, in this case, it's beginning to look like I was told a lie.

As long as you are not out any cash or a knife, no feedback should be left. Sometimes things happen and knife money becomes rent money or light bill money. Communicating clearly if circumstances have changed should be the responsibility of the person going through it.

It would be much better to leave a thread in GBU, and move along. There was one member that was pretty much livid because some guy flaked on a deal, the thread /rant went on for quite few pages and ultimately closed. It was basically making a mountain out of a molehill, seems like it was more of a mistake than a malicious act on the buyers part. The buy that flaked was a new guy with less than a month here and only a handful of posts at the time. In the end the guy was just pissed because he had to relist the knife, not a big deal really.

Sales threads are for sales and GBU threads are for FEEDBACK. If the seller himself cannot preserve this distinction then moderators will walk away shaking our heads when sellers complain of interference.

Backing out of a deal can be ambiguous. As RevDevil just pointed out, people can overreact. We have had people complain because a seller refused to sell to them for whatever reason.

In iTrader this is a flat neative. At least in GBU it is a discussion and we can see who was not materially harmed.
