Can I Say... In General / Community?

I wanted to ask where the line is drawn in regards to what can and can't be said in the General and Community forums. Nothing has happened; I'm just wondering. I know that you can't insult other members, profanity isn't allowed, and mod bashing isn't tolerated. But what about what's below?

(Examples only. I made up a user name so I don't get a real member confused.)

1. Saying something sucks / sucked.
User1: I don't think I like the CRKT M-16, any opinions?
JNieporte: I had one. Blade play all over, wouldn't lock. Mine really sucked.

User2: My dog died last night.
JNieporte: That really sucks. My condolences.

2. "Crap" or "crappy"
User3: So, how about that United Cutlery dagger?
JNieporte: Mine was bad. The sheath was a piece of crap that had very loose weaves, and the blade came with a very crappy edge.

3. I'm assuming a "screw you" is equal to "F you", right?

4. "Ass" but not in reference to a body part.
JNieporte: I met Lynn Thompson twice. Both times, he was an ass: didn't want to talk about knives other than Cold Steel, called my hunting tactics poor, and once I think he challenged me.

5. Non-graphic violence.
User4: So, a dog came on my property and started chasing my three-year-old. It was barking and sure wasn't playing. What should I have done?
JNieporte: I would have shot it in the head...

Any opinions on these circumstances?

Go back and find ways to say the same things without borderline terms and see how that looks. We have a culture of casualness these days that does not always appear as serious as we like to be taken. Crude speech is not forceful, ultimately, it's ranting.

Good topic.

Me: I approach dialog in the forums I visit with the mindset that I have just stepped into a conversation room with worthy adults I do not know well.

I've worked in a motorcycle shop for 25 years and, believe me, my vocabulary has the ability to be choice. ;)

I've also stood on a podium and talked to hundreds of people and roomfuls of youth as a leader. I have the ability to turn my street personality on and off.

I'm both. You're both. Crazily it works!

Coop (Does not always apply in W&C, GB&U, or that other place.)

Personally, I don't care about bad language. The site is for adults, adults should be able to handle the f-bomb just fine. That said, a lot of the community doesn't like swearing, including a bunch of the mods. So, the rule of thumb is to conduct yourself as if you were in polite company.
