hello - i was wondering if it is possible for me to take the thumbstud off of a 484 bucklite?- the handle is to small for me to use the thumbstud safely - when i push up on the stud the handle is to small to hold on to , making all my fingers slide across where the blade goes into the handle and because this is a lockback, if my thumb slips off the stud it will close on my fingers- i know this but i also don't want this to happen in case someone else is using my knife- is there a way to do this with basic tools or is this something that would need to be done in a shop of sorts?- can it be unscrewed? or is it solid?- if anyone knows please help....

I don't think it can be removed without cutting or grinding. I would say to firstly try to texture the thumb stub up more, like use a bastard file and rough the surface of it up. You also may want to look at reducing the pivot friction. My Bantam is the same way (with an overly tight lockback and pivot). Watch my thread on this forum, you may see the solution over there.

That should be a 2 part press fit thumbstud. grab 2 pairs of pliers or vise grips and wiggle one side (preferably the female side) until it comes off

ok - i got it off - called buck - they called back- they told me the same thing about the pliers- i had to man handle it , but it came off - the hole in the blade is fairly small ,so i am happy with the results - thank you for the replies...
