I really like this Swamp Rat knife (style not substance) over the BK9 (don't go burning me on the stake for sacrilege), but I would much prefer the Becker scales - if two knives are left together for a while with a bit Barry White in the background, can they be 'persuaded' to breed?? Haha if only it were that easy!!!

woulda probably put this in general. what do you like about the BK scales vs the SR's? I like the factory BK scales but gotta say like micarta/resin scales more.

I had a SR9 for a short while. Found it too heavy and TOO THICK. Very hard for it to be a good all around fixed knife. Would be great for just taking down trees though. The thing I like best about the BK9 is it's completely capable of hard use tasks and is an absolute SLICING MACHINE as too do skinning, food prep and such. Great all around knife.

Its more the shape of scales than material, yes micarta would be better, but I like the 'backstop' part of a Becker, that you can get a tight grip and not slide in your hand. Or grip the final part with a nice wrist action for chopping. Swamp Rat looks similar to the Esee 6 handle which likewise is out beaten by the Becker. I have not used this knife, but was more a comment or compliment to the thought Uncle E must have put into his handle/scales design.

Im with you Jius. I really like the blade shape and grind on that Swamp Rat, but Uncle E's edges are better as well as his handles. Plus the 9 is the 9.
That Mountainmandu is a much better grind than I normally see on SR's but Woody said like many of their blades his came pretty thick at the edge, and isnt much of a cutter without a regrind.

Aw. Gotcha. The handle shape and pommel. Agree, feels good and secure in the hand. What SR is that BTW? I do like the grind on that better than the SR9.

Jius SR77 is the name for the steel they are using, well their name for it. The knifes called the Mountainmandu from what I have seen on the Swamprat Forums and from what Woody said about the one he bought.

Yeah SR77 is steel. Tanker that 7 is STUNNING! In the 1 in a million chance you decide to sell it please hit me up.:D

That may be one explanation for my ever-expanding collection. Not sure if my wife would buy it, though.

I sunk so much time into that 7 getting it to look like a Busse because I could not afford the real thing. That 7 was my first "real" knife. I absolutely loved it. I did however give it to my dad. A small token of appreciation for giving me more than I could ever repay.

Gsom that 7 looks pretty cool.

There are Mountainmandus and prototypes on the secondary market (snatched up at the recent Knob Creek event). From what I've seen of the protos, they're thinner blade stock and supposedly have slightly different blade shapes. (I looked at a group pic of some protos, and would have been hard pressed to identify the differences).
I haven't had an opportunity to use mine, yet; but it's on my things to do list.

I don't know that I'd want to strip the new Du, though...my understanding is that SR77 likes to rust.
