gather it up on a chunk of tarp, sled it over to a pile of brush, covered with a tarp. Plaster on a 3-4" thick layer of snow, sprinkle on some water, forming a crust. Repeat 2x, so you have 9-12" thick walls, remove the brush and the tarp. presto, igloo. An igloo, if it's kept small and you're up on a raised wooden bed, with debris on that bed, will warm you 50F degrees by sealing in and reflecting your body heat.

You can make mud and brush walls for a shelter, if you can't create a dugout because of rocky ground. but you cant' radiate outside heat into such shelters, but you can put large, hot rocks under the raised wooden bed, in ashes/lined pits, with a layer of ashes over the stones, to regulate the heat. They;'ll warm you 20F degrees for 4 hours.
