I have a very thin Ken Coats knife in a brown micarta. I can't tell if I got a scratch on one of the slabs or it is developing a crack. So, can micarta crack? Sorry no pics at this time.

I suppose it can crack, but would likely take an awful lot to do it. If it's a linen/fabric/canvas type of micarta, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Stuff is extremely rigid and strong. The layers of woven fabric add a lot of reinforcement, and the resin which bonds it together is very tough. I'd bet you're seeing a surface scratch, unless you can actually see a gap to some depth.

Some pics would likely help in giving more definitive advice, though.

I've got a couple of older paper micarta knives with cracked scales. The paper stuff is a lot more brittle than the fabric reinforced Micarta. In both cases, the Micarta cracked around the peened pins.
