Can My Al Mar Hawk Be Fixed?

This is my Al Mar Hawk I bought new about 25 years ago. I put it away about 15 years ago after I noticed the blade lock mechanism sticking out. I think I did it cutting some boxes open.

Al Mar said they can't look at it because their machinery was changed about 10 - 15 years ago to the new style Hawk.

The suggestion was to soak it in warm water and dish soap detergent to see if some obstruction was causing it. Worked the mechanism for about an hour in the soapy water, no change.

When open, it's flush like it should be. It only protrudes when it's in the closed position.

I can push locking mechanism in to flush and slightly beyond in the closed position. There is quite a bit of tension and it pushes right back.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The lockbar isn't broken or chipped on the end. It's a factory cut. Maybe pressure bent the lockbar somehow while I was cutting with it.
