hello guys i need some help with a matter

i was at my sons work today sharpening the knives for the kitchen staff when my stone fell off the counter on to the concrete floor and blow a chunk of the courner out of the stone the piece that flew off was around 1by1.5 inches

it is a norton course/fine combo oil stone that is 8x2x1 inches that had been my grandfathers then my dads and has been mine for the last 30years so this stone is close to 100 years old and still in really good shape except for the missing chunk

i checked the norton web site to see if they still make this style of combo stone and they do so i can buy a new one to use at his work and around the house

but due to the history of this stone i would like to still use it when i can so wanted to know is there anyway i can fix this thing

i was thinking that i might be able to cut the damaged part off and square it up so that the stone is a little shorter like around 6.5-7 inches long instead does this sound like something that can be done and if so how could i do it any ideas are welcome

thankyou

it ca'nt be glued since consistency would not be =. i'm sure it can be cut but this may be expensive. my suggestion call tile installers in your area & catch the boys at a job site. they will cut it for a 5$ tip.

That or if you have a die grinder you can get diamond cutting wheels that will do it.

Unless you prefer the cosmetics, there is no reason to have it perfectly rectangular. The most expensive Japanese water stones that I've seen, costing between $800-$2000 US have not been perfect rectangles. Most have a corner missing or an end that isn't perfectly true. Just file over the broken edge so it isn't sharp, and use it as it is. Why sacrifice the remaining corner just for looks?
