Can O1 be Parkerized?

Title pretty much says it. I'm going to try my hand at a knife or two and see how they turn out. But as I can't stand rust I was thinking about parkerizing the whole blade. Being high carbon tool steel I assume it can be parked but I looked all over and couldn't find a definitive yes or no.

Yes, I have coated O1 with manganese phosphate and zinc phosphate. :)

Ok great thank you!

I do have another question now as you brought up dura coat. What are the advantages and disadvantages of dura coating a knife blade? I was leaning towards parkerizing because it is more than just a coating and it has always seamed to be pretty tough. But I don't know much about dura coating.

It's an epoxy paint. Lessens the likelyhood of rust and requires no oil like parkerizing or bluing. However the sharpened edge as well as any scrapes it will get are still exposed to the elements. I like it on MY guns, don't care for it on MY knives, but customers demand and I perform.

Parkerizing is inhibited by high nickel or chrome content. O1 is low-medium in both, which is why it works on O1. I know you already got an answer, but this should help you decide whether to try parkerizing on other steels in the future.

Also for future reference, Cerakote is an alternative to Duracoat, which works especially well on metals since it is a baked on finish. Cerakote is harder, and can be a bit more durable than Duracoat in some circumstances.
