Can one get knives reground?

My endura wave is very close to being the perfect knife. The only thing that is bothering me is the grind. It makes the blade too thick for my tastes, making slicing too difficult, and making the blade stick in the handle with the introduction of the slightest bit of foreign material.

Are there any shops that will regrind the blade to a partial or full flat grind like the delica or calypso jr? Or, any suggestions for doing this myself?

Check and see if there is a knife club in your area. It would be useful (and probably fun) to attend a meeting and see what they suggest.

Krein does a wonderful job, doing it yourself without power equipment is going to take hours of work.

I tried to PM you, and it appears your website is under construction. About how much would you charge for such a modification?

I tried that address several times, no response.

Anyway, I have a 3" electric belt sander. Can you get belts that are suitable for metal removal? If so you think it would be feasible to chuck it in the vise, and carefully pare down the blade myself? I'm not a total hack, but I'd rather not ruin a $90 knife either.

Hey, we all start out as total hacks. You only get better if you practice. ;) Of course, that's what rusted old machetes are for...

I've ground ceramic sharpening stones back to flat with belt/disc grinders. Water wears away stone. Nothing is impervious to abrasion.

tab,
I have replied to both emails...don't know where they are going?? If you still have note gotten them try PMing me. I think I can take care of you.

Tom

Yes you could do it with a belt sander, I would want to be fairly confident the knife was not going to be thrown clear.

I should have used my other address apparently. I got an email from tom just a couple hours ago, but not before I totally defaced my knife on the belt sander. It didn't turn out too bad but I might send it to him anyway to clean it up and polish it a bit. I'll post pictures in a bit.

It's totally a good mod though, I can already tell it's going to cut better.

Looks better than the ones I grind, I would have went closer to the edge though, that is where most of the performance is lost or gained.

Well the sharp corner where the hollow grind ended was what was bothering me before. It's mostly gone now but I'm going to try to take a bit more. I think it's thin enough out close to the edge.

Any ideas for polishing it when I'm done?

Order you some medium and fine cratex wheels by 3M. They sell them at most supply stores like Jantz, and Texas knifemaker supply. It is the easiest way I know to get the lines to look close to the brushed look from the factory. They are used in a handpiece and dremmel.
