No well stocked kitchen should be without one of these. For that special occasion when something else is needed, well here it is.....

The larger one was hand forged from the same piece of jack hammer bit I did the belt ax out of last week. It turned out the way I wanted since I was trying to maintain the hexagon shape of the bit. The heads just under 11" and it has a 3" plus cutting edge. The smaller one's head is just under 9" and has a cutting edge of just under 3". It was forged out of a 1" square bar of 1084. Both have curley maple hafts but the darker one ain't got the strips like the other. I still need to put another coat of finish on them.

Dang, Boy! You sure make a nice hawk. I'll bet you were't wearing your Tevas while you forged those ones, hehehe ;) Hey when you coming back up to see us anyway?

I have a monster long jackhammer bit I was thinking of pounding on. What are they made of, do you know? Nice rounded section before the rear point, is it ground? How did you do it? I can pound stuff flat, and I can twist it then pound it together, but I would have to grind round. Levi

Higgy, I forged these both in the nude....... :D The furthest east I'll be going this year is Atlanta. To my surprize I was able to get a table there. That will be the 4th show I'll be doing in the first half of 2005. I'll be doing the Las Vegas Show the end of the month and then a small show in Tacoma, Washington two weeks afterwards. Thats the reason I'm trying to get so much done. Got two more axes I hope to have finished today and then 6 sheaths I need to put together.......

Man thats great Raymond. Do you have enough stuff for the table or are you bring a few and photos? Just curious ;)

Levi, I made a fullering tool that allows me to forge in the indent before the spike. I did clean them both up with my small wheel attachment with my ginder. The bits I've been using are S-5.

I've been turning down customers left and right so I won't have to bring a photo book. If I went to a knife show and just looked at photo's of knives I'd just stay home. I'll have a table full and then some.....

Man-o-Man them are nice. :) I really like the head on the big one and the handle on the small one. Which type of wood seems to hold up best on a hawk like that?

 HOLY COW
Man you just keep amazing me Ray.
Did you say Atlanta,The Blade show maybe? If so I will see you there.
Bruce

Nice looking hawks.
A friend works on a construction crew. He said they usually throw the used and broken jack hammer bits away.....NOT ANY MORE.

Post this on Swordforum.com I and I bet you will get orders. One piece of sword slang is "Can Opener" for medival weapons just like this intended to defeat plate armor.

Those are amazing. I really gotta hunt up an anvil and some better forging stuff. The thought that its possible (not that I'll be doing it anytime soon) to turn jack hammer bits into one of those is too cool  .....I'l get on that right after my wallet recovers from the grinder :D

"Fargin' Aye," Ray! Those are slicker'n ... well, they are just real nice. :D I like the turned spike on the big one, cool. Just seeing that kind of work blows me away. I just want to pick em up. Thanks again Ray,

Awsome! Thouse are great, realy beutiful work and you'd never guess they started life as jack hammer bits.
